Rythmol is the name of an  anti-arrhythmic medication which is also known as Propafenone.   The medication is used to  adjust the beat of your hearts  rhythm in patients without heart disease. Abnormal  heart rhythms such as unstained ventricular tachycardia can be controlled with the use of Rythmol rs which  helps the heart to function properly.

Rythmol - How it works

By slowing the influx of sodium into the heart Propafenone reduces the excitability of the cardiac muscle cells . Rythmol has a direct action and is mostly metabolized in the liver. It is very important to talk to a specialist before taking Rythmol because the long-term side effects of the drug are not yet known. As the effects are not known as yet, you will  need to carefully monitor the effects on the drug on your body in consultation with your doctor.  This is likely to involve numerous labroratory and medical tests.

Rythmol and Expectant or Nursing Mothers

You should note and consider carefully that Rhythmol  may have a negative affect on a developing fetus that you may be carrying.   Before undertaking any course of medication you should ensure that have a pregnancy test.   If you are pregnant, or wish to fall pregnant you should discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of taking Rythmol during this time.

If you are a nursing mother you should note that  Rythmol passes into the breast milk.   You should discuss with your doctor the effect of nursing your baby while taking Rythmol.

Rythmol - how should it be taken?

Your doctor will prescribe the dosage and the times that Rythmol should be taken.   You should always follow the directions of your doctor in this regard.  Generally, the recommended dose for an adult is 150 mg taken every eight hours and the maximum dose is 900 mg per day.

Propafenone is slowly released into your body during the course of the day.   In order to be effective it should be taken whole either  with or without food.  Rythmol capsules should be chewed, crushed or broken.

Medication usually works best when it is taken as prescribed.  However, if you do miss taking a dose you should take the dose as soon as you can.   You should be careful not to take a double dose by accident.   If you organise a regular time for taking your medications you will easily adjust to the routine and be less likely to  miss a dose or double up by mistake.   If you accidently take a double dose of Rythmol you may experience dizziness, tiredness, fainting, slow heart beats, confusion, changing tastes, upset stomach, etc. If you suffer from any of these symptoms appear you  should avoid any hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery.

You may experience side effects from taking Rythmol and if you do so you should iImmediately consult your doctor.  Some side effects that you may experience may be:

-    any allergic reactions
-    new irregular heartbeats or worsening the existing ones
-    swelling of the ankles or of the legs
-    infections, mouth ulcers, fever
-    bleeding or bursting
-    any chest discomfort
